Viral Infection
A viral infection is an infection caused by a virus, which is a tiny organism that can replicate itself in cells of other living organisms. Viruses can affect people, animals and plants, and cause a range of symptoms depending on the virus. Common symptoms include fever, chills, sore throat, headache, fatigue and body aches. In some cases, a virus can cause more serious and even life-threatening illnesses. Treatment for a viral infection often includes rest, fluids, over-the-counter medications and possibly antiviral medications. Prevention is key to avoiding a viral infection and includes hand-washing, avoiding contact with people who are sick and following basic health guidelines.
