Overview

Implant surgery in dentistry is the surgical placement of artificial tooth roots, typically titanium fixtures, into the alveolar bone to support crowns, bridges, or dentures after tooth loss. The fixture osseointegrates with the surrounding bone over a healing period, providing a stable foundation for prosthetic restoration. Successful surgery depends on assessment of bone volume and quality, anatomical risk factors, the timing of placement relative to extraction, and adjunctive procedures such as sinus augmentation and ridge reconstruction when bone is deficient. The research collected here reflects this scope through studies of anatomical risk factors associated with immediate placement in the posterior maxilla using cone-beam analysis, sinus-lift augmentation with hydroxyapatite and beta-tricalcium phosphate grafts, digital planning for mini-implant-supported expansion, bioactive graft materials, autotransplantation for missing molars, implant osseointegration assessed histologically, implant-supported overdentures, and the comparative role of cone-beam computed tomography and orthopantomography in surgical planning. Together they span site assessment, grafting, placement technique, and prosthetic loading across case reports and clinical studies. The journal publishes peer-reviewed research on the surgical placement and integration of dental implants and the reconstructive procedures that support them within oral implantology.
