Overview

Short dental implants are dental implants of reduced length, used to replace missing teeth in situations where the available bone height is limited. They offer an alternative to longer implants that might otherwise require bone grafting or sinus augmentation to achieve adequate support, particularly in the posterior jaw where anatomical structures constrain implant length. By making use of available bone, short implants can simplify treatment and reduce the need for additional surgery, while still relying on osseointegration, the biological fusion of the implant with surrounding bone, for long-term stability and function. As a journal focused on Dentistry And Oral Implants, this title publishes peer-reviewed, open-access research on implant dentistry and restorative techniques. Related work available here addresses implant placement and bone management, including grafting and sinus augmentation procedures, immediate placement, osseointegration, and implant-supported restorations, all of which form the clinical context in which decisions about implant length and design are made. This page gathers literature relevant to short dental implants, supporting readers seeking primary research on implant treatment, bone considerations, and restorative outcomes in implant dentistry.
