Chondrocytes

Chondrocytes are cells found in the cartilage that line our joints and provide cushioning and support. They have a very important role in regulating our body movements and protecting our joints from injury. Chondrocytes also produce several proteins, including collagen and proteoglycan, which are necessary for maintaining the structure and function of the cartilage. As we age, the production of these proteins decreases, leading to cartilage degeneration and the development of osteoarthritis. Therefore, understanding the role of chondrocytes and their contribution to healthy joint function is important for developing therapies aimed at treating age-related joint diseases.
