Laparoscopy
Laparoscopy is a type of minimally-invasive surgery that uses a small fiber-optic camera and specialized instruments to perform operations within the abdomen. During laparoscopy, a surgeon makes several small incisions in the abdominal wall and inserts a laparoscope — a thin, lighted tube — into the abdominal cavity. This allows the surgeon to get a clear, magnified view of the internal organs and perform the necessary procedures. Laparoscopy has many advantages over traditional, open surgery, such as decreased risk of infection, less pain, faster recovery, and less scarring. It is commonly used to diagnose and treat conditions related to the reproductive organs, gastrointestinal tract, and other organs in the abdominal cavity.
