Proctitis
Proctitis is a condition that affects the rectum and causes inflammation in the lining of the large intestine. It is often accompanied by pain, diarrhea, and rectal bleeding. Proctitis can be caused by infection, such as bacterial or viral, radiation therapy, inflammatory bowel conditions, or irritants such as certain medications. Treatment for proctitis depends on the underlying cause, but typically includes medications, dietary changes, and in some cases, surgery. Proctitis is important to identify and treat early because it can lead to more serious complications such as fistula formation, which is an abnormal connection between two organs, or abscesses, which are collections of pus. Prompt diagnosis and treatment are necessary to prevent these serious complications.
