Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a chronic skin condition that is characterized by dry, scaly patches on the skin. It is caused by an over-reactive immune system that mistakenly attacks healthy skin cells and stimulates new skin cell production. The resulting patches are red, itchy, and often painful. Psoriasis affects an estimated 7.5 million people in the United States, making it one of the most common skin conditions. Early diagnosis and treatment is important to keep the condition under control and improve quality of life for those affected. Treatments vary depending on the severity of the case, but commonly involve steroid creams, light therapy, or oral medications.
