Vitiligo
Vitiligo is a medical condition characterized by the loss of skin pigment, resulting in white patches of skin on various parts of the body. It is caused by the destruction of melanocytes, which are cells responsible for producing the pigment melanin. Vitiligo is a lifelong condition that affects 1-2% of the general population. It can be managed through a combination of medical therapies, such as light therapy, topical medications, and depigmentation, and psychological support. Vitiligo is associated with psychological distress and stigmatization, making it important to raise awareness about this condition. With early diagnosis and effective treatments, those living with vitiligo can experience improved quality of life.
