Hydrogen Deuterium Exchange Mass Spectrometry
Hydrogen Deuterium Exchange Mass Spectrometry (HDX MS) is a powerful analytical technique used to detect and measure modifications to proteins. The technique uses the exchange of hydrogen atoms (H) for deuterium atoms (D) to uncover the three-dimensional dynamics of proteins to determine how the protein’s structure is affected by its environment. By monitoring the rate of exchange between H and D atoms, scientists can measure how quickly and to what extent a protein is affected by its environment, allowing them to gain insight into the structure of proteins, as well as biological and chemical mechanisms. HDX MS has a wide range of applications and is used to study protein folding, protein-drug interactions, protein-protein interactions, post-translational modifications, and protein stability.
