Inductively Coupled Plasma-mass Spectrometry

(ICP-MS) Inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) is an analytical technique used for the detection and quantification of trace elements in a sample. It is a highly sensitive technique that combines the principles of inductively coupled plasma (ICP) atomic emission spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry (MS) to analyze the composition of solid, liquid and gaseous samples. ICP-MS is used in a wide variety of fields, including environmental analysis, life sciences, geochemical analysis and industrial process control. It is used to detect and measure the concentration of up to 70 different elements, ranging from those found in trace amounts to those present in large concentrations. In addition, it is used to identify and quantify unknown elements, determine the presence or absence of a certain element, and detect impurities contained in a sample. ICP-MS is an invaluable tool for providing accurate information on the composition and structure of samples.
