Metabolomics
Metabolomics is the study of small molecules or metabolites found in an organism's cells or bodily fluids. It is used to gain insights into how an organism’s metabolism is functioning. Knowing the levels and changes in metabolites helps scientists identify health risks, understand how genes are expressed, and even uncover new drug targets. Metabolomics often involves the use of advanced analytical technologies such as high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), gas chromatography (GC), and mass spectrometry (MS) to measure and analyze the molecules. By studying the biochemical changes in an organism’s metabolic pathways, scientists can gain an in-depth understanding of cellular activities and how they are affected by the environment or disease. This knowledge can be used to monitor health, diagnose illnesses, and discover new drugs and treatments.
