Quantitative Mass Spectrometry

Quantitative mass spectrometry is a powerful analytical technique that enables the exact measurement of molecular compositions in a sample. It involves the use of a mass spectrometer, an instrument that breaks down molecules into its component parts and then measures the parts’ individual masses. With this technique, researchers can measure the relative abundances of specific molecules in biological, environmental, and other samples. The data produced by quantitative mass spectrometry can be used to determine the metabolic activities of cells, as well as to identify and quantify known molecules or novel compounds present in a sample. Additionally, this technique can be used to screen for minor modifications in proteins, measure long-term changes in the environment, or diagnose diseases.
