Time-of-flight (TOF) Mass Spectrometry
Time-of-flight (TOF) mass spectrometry is a powerful analytical technique for characterizing complex samples and is used in many industries such as pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, environmental science and food science. The technique works by ionizing a sample, accelerating these ions to a uniform energy and analyzing them according to their time-of-flight. By measuring the time it takes for the ions to travel a known distance, their mass-to-charge ratio can be calculated, allowing the composition of the sample to be determined. TOF mass spectrometry has several advantages such as fast data acquisition, high sensitivity and low sample consumption, making it an invaluable tool for a wide range of applications.
