Amyloid Proteins
Amyloid proteins are a type of protein that can form deposits, called amyloid plaques, in and around the body’s cells. Amyloid plaques are linked to serious neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. Research has shown that elevated levels of amyloid protein can be found in the brains of people with these diseases. Therefore, understanding the structure and function of amyloid proteins is important for improving diagnosis and treatments for these diseases. Amyloid proteins can also be found in certain types of cancer and have been exploited for the development of immunotherapy treatments.
