Dysentery

Dysentery is an intestinal infection that is caused by various types of bacteria, parasites or viruses. Symptoms can include bloody diarrhea, abdominal pain, fever, and fatigue. It can be serious and life-threatening, especially among young children in developing countries. Treatment for dysentery usually involves antibiotics and fluid replacement therapy. Prevention is key and can be accomplished by washing hands regularly, living in sanitary conditions, and drinking only safe water. Improperly treated dysentery can lead to complications such as malnutrition, dehydration, septicemia, and death, making it an important public health concern.
