Gastrointestinal Hemorrhage
Gastrointestinal hemorrhage is a medical condition characterized by a bleed or hemorrhage in the gastrointestinal tract. It is typically caused by ulcers or other such conditions within the stomach and intestines. Symptoms may include vomiting of fresh or partially digested blood, abdominal pain and dark colored stools. If left untreated it can lead to significant blood loss, shock and even death. Early diagnosis and treatment is vital as it often requires hospitalization and may involve surgical intervention. Gastrointestinal hemorrhage is one of the leading causes of death due to gastrointestinal issues, especially in the elderly.
