Gastrointestinal Imaging
Gastrointestinal (GI) imaging is a group of diagnostic techniques used to visualize the interior of the body’s GI tract. It is used to diagnose and monitor diseases of the digestive system, including cancer, inflammatory bowel diseases, and gastrointestinal motility disorders. It can also be used to diagnose and treat issues such as ulcers, abnormal tract shapes, and blockages. GI imaging can be done through endoscopy, where a tube is inserted into the body, or by imaging technologies such as X-ray, computer tomography (CT) scan, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and ultrasound. The images obtained allow for the evaluation of organs and tissues and can provide physicians with invaluable information when making a diagnosis and determining the best course of treatment.
