Stomach

acid Stomach acid, also known as gastric acid, is a strong acid produced in the stomach to facilitate digestion. Its main purpose is to help break down proteins so that they can be digested more efficiently. It also helps to protect the stomach against potentially harmful microbes that may be consumed in food. Stomach acid is essential for proper nutrition, digestion and absorption of vitamins and minerals. It also plays a key role in the absorption of drugs and other therapeutic agents used to treat medical conditions. Without adequate stomach acid, the body is unable to fully process and absorb the nutrients it needs for optimal health.
