Dna Damage Response
DNA damage response (DDR) is a set of cellular mechanisms that detect and repair changes in a cell’s DNA. Damage to DNA can occur as a result of exposure to environmental factors, such as UV radiation from the sun, or from mistakes that occur during normal cellular activities. The DDR plays an essential role in maintaining the integrity of the genome, and its malfunction is associated with diseases such as cancer, aging, and immunological disorders. The DDR process can be divided into three stages: 1) the recognition and signaling of DNA damage; 2) the repair of the damaged DNA; and 3) the maintenance and repair of genomic integrity. The DDR utilizes a variety of proteins and pathways to detect and repair DNA damage, including enzymes such as DNA-PK, ATM, ATR, RecQL and others. Understanding the DDR process is important for developing therapies to treat diseases and disorders associated with DNA damage.
