Expressed Sequence Tags Analysis
Expressed sequence tags (ESTs) are short sections of DNA-sequences that represent a gene in the genome. ESTs are useful for cataloging gene expression levels and identifying new genes. EST analysis involves comparing the ESTs of different organisms or different stages of development, which helps identify novel gene functions, relationships between genes, and even whole pathways. It also helps us better understand evolutionary relationships among species, and the dynamics of gene expression during development. By analyzing ESTs, scientists can identify new genes and gain insights that can lead to more targeted and effective treatments of diseases. It can also help in the development of new drugs, as well as new crop varieties.
