Genetic Fingerprinting
Genetic Fingerprinting is a technique used to identify individuals by examining their DNA. It is used in a variety of forensic and medical applications, such as determining paternity and establishing a person’s identity in cases of criminal activity, or to diagnose and monitor certain inherited diseases. By looking at an individual’s unique pattern of their genetic material, or "fingerprint", it is possible to accurately identify an individual and differentiate them from the rest of the population. This method of analysis is highly accurate and is becoming increasingly important as modern crime investigation and medical diagnosis both become increasingly reliant on this technology.
