Retinitis Pigmentosa

Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) is a genetic condition that affects the cells of the retina. It can cause progressive vision loss, ultimately leading to blindness. It is the most common type of inherited retinal degenerative disease affecting millions of people around the world. RP can be caused by mutations in any of more than 50 different genes, making diagnosis and treatment difficult. Currently, there is no successful way to treat RP, however, there are strategies to slow the progression of vision loss. These strategies involve the use of low vision aids, such as magnifiers, to make the most of remaining vision, and genetic counseling to help individuals and families understand their risk of passing on the condition.

DNA, is like a blueprint of biological guidelines that a living organism must follow to exist and remain functional. RNA, helps carry out this blueprint's guidelines. RNA is more versatile than DNA, capable of performing numerous, diverse tasks in an organism, however DNA is more stable and holds more complex information for longer periods of time.
