Blastulas
A blastula is an early stage of animal embryonic development during which the embryo has two layers of cells. It is a spherical ball of cells that develops from the fertilized egg. Blastula is the stage of development in which the basic body plan of the organism is established, meaning the first differentiated tissues can be observed. After this stage, the embryo will further differentiate into the more complex tissues and organs of the organism. This stage of development is crucial for the development of all animals, and its significance is that it sets up the proper development for the rest of the organism’s life. It is also used in stem cell research to develop new therapeutic treatments for a variety of illnesses and diseases.
