Ontogeny
Ontogeny is the process of development from a fertilized egg in an animal or plant to adulthood. It is important in the study of evolutionary biology and in understanding the life cycle development of an organism. Ontogeny is also used to describe the development of behavior patterns, learned behaviors, and physiological changes that an organism undergoes throughout its life. Its importance lies in its ability to allow researchers to study the evolution of species and to gain insights into the adaptive changes that underlie the evolution of traits in organisms. Ontogeny can be used to improve the breeding and care of animals, as well as to better understand the behavior of wild animals. It can also provide insight into the adaptation of humans to different environments and how climate change might affect the development of animal and plant species.
