Umbilical Arteries

The umbilical arteries are two arteries embedded in the umbilical cord that carry oxygen-deprived and nutrient-filled blood from the mother to the fetus. They are important for the growth and development of the fetus, providing the necessary nutrition and oxygen to the baby while in the womb. After birth, these arteries are clotted off and become non-functional. They are essential for maintaining the life of the baby in the womb and the health of the child post birth.
