Follicular Fluid
Follicular fluid is a highly complex and chemically distinct liquid that surrounds oocytes in the ovarian follicle. It is particularly rich in proteins, lipids, hormones, and other biomolecules. Its main function is to protect, nourish, and transport oocytes to the oviduct, where fertilization can take place. In recent years, the composition of follicular fluid has been studied in detail and has become an area of intense research for its potential to provide an insight into the development of various reproductive diseases. Its use as a biomarker for infertility, endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome, and other disorders has been suggested, which could open the door to more accurate diagnosis and more effective treatment.
