Fractionation
Fractionation is a process used to separate a mixture of compounds based on the differing physical and chemical properties of the components. It is a common technique used in a range of industries, such as petroleum production, chemical and food processing, and biotechnology. Fractionation enables the production of different products, ranging from fuels and plastics to medicines and cosmetics. By separating molecules into fractions, individual components can be further analyzed and manipulated for specific purposes. Fractionation is a key step in various scientific processes, from the purification of water to the extraction of proteins from a solution.
