Peroxisomes
Peroxisomes are membrane-bound organelles found in the cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells. They are important for numerous cellular processes, including the breakdown of lipids and carbohydrates, the formation of reactive oxygen species and the detoxification of drugs and xenobiotics. They also play an important role in cell signaling and the regulation of cell metabolism. In addition, peroxisomes have been implicated in various human diseases, including Zellweger Syndrome and Rhizomelic chondrodysplasia punctata. The importance of peroxisomes has become increasingly apparent, and many new functions continue to be discovered.
