Retroviruses

Retroviruses are a type of virus that are capable of inserting their genetic material into the genome of a host cell. Retroviruses have an RNA genome, which is reverse-transcribed into a DNA form. This DNA is then integrated into the host's genome, where it can be transcribed and translated into viral proteins. Retroviruses are important research tools and have been used in the development of gene therapy. They have also been implicated in the development of some cancers, and can cause a range of diseases in humans and animals. In some cases, retroviral infection can have beneficial effects, such as improving immune responses to pathogens.
