Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation
Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is a medical procedure in which stem cells are transplanted from a healthy donor to a recipient to restore healthy blood cell production. This procedure has become a life-saving treatment for patients with various blood-related diseases such as leukemia, lymphoma, and genetic blood disorders. HSCT can not only cure diseases, but also alleviate symptoms and significantly improve the quality of life for patients. Moreover, HSCT is used to restore the proper functioning of the immune system in patients who receive chemotherapy or radiation to treat cancer. The advances in HSCT technologies have allowed for the transplantation of a variety of blood cell types, including B- and T-cells, to restore normal immune functioning. Finally, HSCT may increase survival rates in patients with certain blood-related disorders, allowing them to lead a normal life.
