Root Hairs

Root hairs are small outgrowths from the epidermal cells of a plant root. They are typically 2 to 5 micrometers in diameter and up to several hundred micrometers in length. Root hairs are essential for the absorption of water and nutrients from the soil, as well as for anchoring the plant in the soil. They are able to absorb water, minerals and other substances from the soil and transport them to the plant. This process is key for plant nutrition and growth, as well as for the overall health of the plant. root hairs also form a protective barrier against pathogens, and play an important role in the protection of plants from pests. The presence of root hairs is a sign of a healthy and well-developed root system.
