Denervation
Denervation refers to the surgical removal or damage of the nerve supply of a certain area. It is most commonly used in the treatment of chronic pain, as the lack of nerve signal can reduce the perception of pain. Denervation can also be used to reduce muscle spasms and twitching, as well as decrease the production of certain hormones or substances, such as catecholamines. Furthermore, denervation of specific areas, such as the heart, can be used to treat certain cardiovascular diseases, such as atrial fibrillation. It is a minimally invasive procedure, and its effects can be seen immediately following the operation.
