Subtilase Cytotoxin
Subtilase cytotoxin is a toxic protein produced by pathogenic bacteria, such as Clostridium difficile. It is a major cause of healthcare-associated infections and is responsible for severe gastrointestinal disease and life-threatening colitis. Subtilase cytotoxin is a powerful enzyme that can penetrate the cell membrane and disrupt the normal functioning of cells. It is used in diagnostic tests to detect C. difficile infection, as well as for vaccine development for prevention of the disease. It has also been studied for its therapeutic potential in treating disorders such as inflammatory bowel disease and Crohn’s disease. With its potential to be used as a diagnostic, preventive and therapeutic agent, subtilase cytotoxin is a promising molecule for tackling bacterial infections.
