Fusarium Graminearum

Fusarium graminearum is a species of fungus in the genus Fusarium. It is a plant pathogen, capable of infecting many cereal crops including barley, wheat, corn, and oats. This fungus causes Fusarium Head Blight (FHB), a disease that reduces crop yields and affects grain quality. Fusarium graminearum produces toxins, such as deoxynivalenol, which can contaminate grain and may present a health hazard. Management of Fusarium graminearum involves prevention of infection, through crop rotation and careful selection of appropriate varieties. It can also be controlled by chemical treatment of affected crops. Fusarium graminearum is an important plant pathogen which affects global crop production and grain quality and therefore needs to be managed carefully.
