Histoplasmosis
Histoplasmosis is an infection caused by the fungus Histoplasma capsulatum. It is an airborne disease and is typically spread by inhaling spores of the fungus, often in the form of dust. This fungus is most commonly found in soil and bird droppings, which can become airborne when disturbed. It can cause a wide range of symptoms including fever, chest pain, and difficulty breathing. It can also cause the lungs to scar, leading to severe disability in some cases. Treatment for histoplasmosis includes anti-fungal medications and in severe cases, hospitalization may be necessary. Early diagnosis and treatment can reduce the risk of complications and death.
