Peritonitis

Peritonitis is an infection of the abdominal lining, the peritoneum. It is caused by damage to the abdomen, typically due to a surgery, illness or injury. Symptoms can include abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and fever. Peritonitis can be a life-threatening condition, and treatment typically requires antibiotics and sometimes surgery. Early diagnosis and prompt treatment of peritonitis can greatly improve a patient’s chances of full recovery.
