Phylogeny
Phylogeny is the study of the evolutionary history and relationships of different species. Through this study, biologists are able to better understand how species are connected and have evolved to where they are today. Phylogeny can also be used to identify new species and discover the last common ancestor of different groups of organisms. It is an important tool for understanding the diversity of life on Earth and may even help us to better predict and manage the effects of climate change and other anthropogenic forces. Phylogeny can also be used to help inform conservation decisions and to design treatments for infectious diseases.
