Sporothrix Schenckii

Sporothrix schenckii is a fungus that is found in soil and on plants, and is an emerging pathogen of humans and animals. It can cause a rare, but serious infection known as sporotrichosis. This infection can lead to a range of symptoms such as swollen lymph nodes, skin lesions, and joint pain. In severe cases, it can spread to internal organs and cause systemic infection. The disease can be treated with antifungal medications, but the treatment is often difficult. The fungus is of particular concern for people in occupational settings where the risk of contact with mammalian hosts is high, such as veterinary surgeons, gardeners, and farmers. Therefore, it is important for individuals who may be at risk of contact with Sporothrix schenckii to take safety precautions, such as wearing protective clothing, to minimise the risk of developing a serious infection.
