Trichophyton
Trichophyton is a genus of dermatophyte fungi which is of medical and veterinary importance for causing fungal skin infections such as ringworm, athlete's foot, jock itch and beard and scalp infections. They are also common causes of superficial fungal infections in humans and animals. Trichophyton species are able to grow on artificial media, allowing for accurate identification and susceptibility testing. This provides an accurate diagnosis of Trichophyton infections, which enables targeted therapeutic interventions. With appropriate treatment, Trichophyton infections are curable.
