Aequorin

Aequorin is a protein found in jellyfish that acts as a bioluminescent marker. It produces a blue-green light when calcium ions are present in its environment, allowing researchers to study calcium activity inside a cell. With its unique ability to detect calcium in cells, aequorin is widely used in research studies to examine various biological processes, such as nerve and muscle activity, calcium fluxes, and hormone release. Aequorin has become an increasingly popular research tool amongst scientists as its use is cost effective and efficient with minimal invasive techniques. It has contributed to the advancement of research studies in the biological sciences and its potential for use in other fields of science, such as medical research, is growing.
