Bacteriology

Bacteriology is the branch of science which studies bacteria, the microorganisms that inhabit our environment. Bacteria are important to the health of the environment and of humans and other living organisms. Bacteriology studies the structure, metabolic processes and classification of bacteria, their habitats and biochemical activities, their interactions with hosts and their roles in disease and in other biological processes. Bacteriology also investigates applications of bacteria in healthcare, agriculture and industry as well as their use in bioremediation and biotechnology. Understanding bacteriology is essential in preventing and treating diseases and controlling the spread of infection.
