Complex Traits
Complex traits are phenotypic attributes that are influenced by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. This makes them difficult to study since it is impossible for scientists to separate the relative contribution of these components. Complex traits can include physical characteristics such as height, cardiovascular health, and even psychological characteristics such as intelligence, personality and psychopathology. The study of complex traits is important because understanding how genetics and the environment interact to influence them can provide insights into the role of genetics in the development of disease and mental health disorders while helping to identify biomarkers of risk. Finally, the study of complex traits can also help develop new treatments and improve personalized medicine.
