Dapi Staining

Dapi Staining is a DNA staining technique used in microscopy. It consists of labelling a sample with the fluorescent dye 4',6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI) to make it more visible under the microscope. DAPI, upon excitation by UV light, emits blue light, allowing for the visualization of cellular components, such as nuclei, for morphological and cytogenetic studies. DAPI staining can also reveal the genomic composition of an organism, as the DNA within the nuclei will be stained blue. Couple with other antibodies and stains, DAPI is extremely useful in providing a detailed analysis of tissue preparation, while also giving a general overview of the structure of the sample.
