Duplicated Genes
Duplicated genes are genes that have two or more copies in the same genome. They are important because they provide the genetic material that is needed to create new proteins and functions. Duplication of genes is thought to be one of the primary forces driving evolutionary change. It is also used in research to better understand genetic diseases, gene function and evolution. In agriculture, it is used to create new varieties of crops. In medicine, it is used to develop treatments for genetic disorders.
