Epigenome
The epigenome is the biological system that is responsible for controlling our genes. It consists of chemical groups which attach to the DNA molecules and interact with other molecular components in order to control when, where, and how much of a particular gene is expressed. This system plays an essential role in controlling the underlying processes that drive normal development and health, as well as disease. By targeting the epigenome, we can potentially intervene and manipulate the expression of genes in order to treat and even prevent serious health conditions. Research into the epigenome has therefore opened up vast opportunities for clinical applications and the possibility to revolutionize healthcare.
