Gene Conversion
Gene conversion is a type of genomic change in which one gene is changed, or partially replaced, by another. This process can be triggered by DNA damage or by a foreign DNA fragment, such as a virus. It is a crucial process for producing genetic variation and can lead to changes in the expression of genes. Such changes in gene expression can lead to differences in the physical characteristics of an organism, enabling evolution. Gene conversion is also important for maintaining the integrity of genes and for repairing certain types of genetic damage. Thus, gene conversion plays a major role in many biological processes, such as evolution and development.
