Gene Prediction
Gene prediction (also known as gene finding) is a computational technique used to identify regions of a DNA sequence that potentially encode genes. This is done by comparing a DNA sequence to databases of protein and gene sequences and analyzing the patterns of evolutionary conservation. It also involves inspecting the sequence for signals like protein binding sites. Gene prediction is an important tool for understanding gene structure and function, as well as for understanding gene expression levels in different organisms or under different environmental conditions. It enables researchers to better understand the roles of genes in various biological pathways, and it is a key step in unlocking the potential of personalized medicine.
