Gene Types
Gene types are a classification of genes according to their size and function. These genetic types can be divided into two main categories: protein-coding genes and non-coding genes. Protein-coding genes are responsible for making the proteins that carry out a multitude of tasks essential to the functioning of the cell, while non-coding genes are involved in regulating a variety of cellular processes. In addition to these two categories, there are several other gene types that have different functions. Understanding the different types of genes and the roles they play is essential for scientists to gain a better understanding of how genes work and how they may be linked to diseases. Furthermore, knowledge of gene types can also aid in the advancement of gene therapies and treatments for a variety of illnesses.
