Genetic Linkage
Genetic linkage refers to the phenomenon of genes located close to each other on the same chromosome being inherited together more often than expected. This is due to physical proximity of loci that reduce the probability of recombination during meiosis, which increases the probability of genes being inherited together. Genetic linkage is used to identify disease genes, to track genes in populations, to do evolutionary studies, to provide markers for marker-assisted selection, and to study inbreeding.
