Genetics and Genomics Complex Traits
Genetics and genomics are the study of how genes and genomes, or the entire set of genes within a species, affect the health and behavior of individual organisms. Complex traits are those that are influenced by multiple genes, as well as environmental factors. By studying the genetic and genomic components of complex traits, researchers are able to better understand how these traits are inherited, how they are influenced by environmental factors, and how they are altered by mutations. This knowledge can help scientists identify potential treatments or therapies for diseases and help breeders develop plants and animals with desirable characteristics. Understanding genetics and genomics of complex traits also has implications for medical diagnosis and prognosis, food security, conservation, and drug development.
